Doubling your savings you could retire 10 years earlier, but if you have no control over how much you save, it’s purely a theoretical consideration. You could say the same for financial planning. Many times we’ve pointed out the benefits of having a financial plan – but they’re no good unless you actually follow them. And we have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of people don’t. Once a year they may sit down with their planners and pledge to spend less, sort out their investments, and set up that RESP, but how many actually do it?

To find out, just over two years ago we set up a little experiment. We invited Canadians from across the country to take part in a week-long financial boot camp we called the Seven-Day Financial Makeover. From more than 200 entries, we selected four participants – three couples and one single woman. We flew them to Toronto, put them up at the Fairmont Royal York hotel for a week, and told them to brace themselves for the most intense personal finance workshop of their lives.

Nine of the country’s top financial experts put our participants through a grueling series of sessions covering everything from budgeting and bank fees to insurance and investing. When they were done, we asked a top financial planner – to draw up a comprehensive and personalized long-term financial plan for each participant. Then we sent them home and waited.

We learned a lot about how financial planning works from the experience, and we think you can learn a lot from reading about it. But we also knew that the real value of the exercise wouldn’t be revealed for a while. As they left, all of our participants told us that our boot camp would change their lives. But would it really? It has now been more than two years since the Seven-Day Makeover and it’s time to find out. Can an impulse shopper really become a bargain hunter? Can a couple who always argue about money live happily together? Can a woman with almost no investment knowledge stick to a sound investment plan? Read on to to find out the five key pieces of advices that succeeded – and three approaches that don’t work at all.

Amazing Part of Obama

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

There can be said to to be several parts concerning the Obama “administration”  and its effects on the world economy and the forex foreign currency trading situation.

First of all while the American public elected Mr. Obama the rest of the world is rather concerned.  Its an interconnected world – an foreign currency is the jam or the oil that makes it all work well .  On top of that the dollar numbers involved in the “bailouts”  are beyond comprehension.  Yet foreign governments are watching their holdings , in US dollar demominations , being played around by people of little real experience or background , like a financial planner saying jokingly ( or not so jokingly ) , that he will “play around”  or “we can play around”  with money you have set aside for investments.  Hard earned money at that.  What a bunch of children and crooks.  And yet the environmentalist Mr. Obama flies to Hawaii in an almost empty jumbo jet.

Robert Reich’s Blog: How Obama Can Succeed in the Next Hundred … – The stimulus and bank bailouts have required the government to pump almost $1.5 trillion into the economy and the Federal Reserve Board to dramatically expand the money supply. This makes sense in the short term. …

Barack Obama: Screw You! | American Conservative Daily – Yes, that’s right, “mutate” into something “unhealthy” — that’s how Barack Obama’s administration responded to those patriotic Americans who opposed trillions of dollars in out-of-control federal spending, and who also opposed bailouts …

President Obama’s First 100 Days « On Freedom’s Wings – Through all the bailouts the President and his administration have pledged $9.7 trillion of taxpayer money. That is in addition to the $11 trillion current national debt. He signed into law a housing bailout that $75 billion towards …

Obama’s first 100 days as U.S. president | HonoluluAdvertiser.com … – April 2: Obama attends the Group of 20 economic summit in London, where leaders agree to bail out developing countries, stimulate world trade and regulate financial firms more stringently. … April 20: Obama holds the first formal Cabinet meeting of his administration, ordering department heads to slice spending by $100 million, a tiny fraction of the $3.6 trillion federal budget he proposed a month earlier. April 21: Obama leaves the door open for prosecution of federal …

The Bailout Is a Fraud That Could Bring Down Obama | Corporate … – Inflation will kick in. More trillions for the Macs will be needed. Housing isn’t going to recover and stocks will be forty percent below what many paid for them for a long time. Obama will go down. And of course the black media and …

The Art of Speculating

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

The art of speculating in one form or another has been around since the dawn of time.  Just look at the major commercial uses of the internet -  pornography and gambling.   True gambling  or such endeavors as card playing are strictly a social activity – as Mr. Morris Brown – pointed out the other day in a discussion at a local burger king.   He told the crowd – that as long as you are having a good time , its just a few dollars , for entertainment no harm done.  So be it.

You can absolutely sure of several things marks prominent economist M.  Labovitch.   They are that there will always be people to speculate , history will repeat itself and that Mr. Brown is a fool and a stupid man.

Sure enough the object of speculation may change, the rules may change , technology and forms of communication may change but at the end of it all – someone else may have your money.  It used to be that was the town low life or criminal.  Not its either your local “financial planner” , some big shot on wall street , who after setting up a no-lose financial rescue plan for his firm.  Its either a financial collapse and the federal government bails us out , while in the process awarding themselves obscene bonuses.

Its only a matter a size of the take .   However it has gotten to the point that the party may over.

As CNN reports “Wall Street now has a new worry: bonus season.

There are already rumblings that the notoriously lavish payments for bankers and traders could be cut in half from a year ago, following what has been an abysmal year for the securities industry.

Just a year ago, the bonus pie was worth about $33.2 billion, which broke down to an average of $180,420 for the more than 180,000 individuals employed by Wall Street firms at the time, according to the New York State Comptroller’s office.’

You can count again on several certainties in life – greed , greed and greed.
